In this week's weekly New York Times column, Revisiting Godello, a Grape That Spain Has Rescued, Eric Asimov and his panel taste through a representative sampling of Godello: "Consider the godello grape. Just a few decades ago, it had virtually disappeared from Spain. But a concerted effort by a small number of growers not only saved godello but also inspired wine producers all over the northwestern part of the country to see what they could do with it. Results have been exceptionally promising, and the change has been rapid." Bodegas Valdesil Godello Sobre Lias 2013 ranked number four in the top ten wines featured with "High-toned, rich and floral, with flavors of apples and minerals." (three stars) and Vina Godeval Cepas Vellas 2013 in the tenth spot, "Richly textured yet tangy, with earthy, floral aromas and flavors of tropical fruits."
